NUNO CABECEIRAS

Copy, right?

My name is Nuno. I’m a Copywriter, currently doing copy and strategy at Mantra in Lisbon.

I have a deep interest in advertising and everything that surrounds it. I’ve always loved to communicate. I’ve always loved learning new things every day. I’ve always loved the puzzle and the solution. I’ve always loved creating stuff. I’ve always loved debating and persuading.

Putting it all together, Advertising is where I feel right at home.

I firmly believe that life is only as boring as you let it be. And in my life, I’ve always tried to go that extra mile. Be it as a copywriter, as musician or just in everyday life, making jokes and debating whichever issue. I’m always looking for ways to make communication interesting.

This is my purpose. This is my commitment.

Long story, short-ish

Born in the Azores. Lost in Porto. Found in Belgium. Twice.

Physics + Psychology = Advertising?

Yes, it sounds a bit strange. After graduating high-school my route was set: college in the mainland. I didn’t really have a specific career path in mind, yet, but I had one certainty at least. I wanted to study something interesting and challenging. Physics was just that.

Until it stopped being just that.

As I was finishing the Bachelor degree, I felt that something was missing and I was fortunate enough to be able to pursue and old interest of mine, Psychology. It was back to square one, but with a newfound energy and motivation.
Even before starting classes, I was already deeply interested in studying Persuasion, Marketing and Consumer Behavior.

After one class, I was hooked on Social Psychology.

Duval Guillaume (Antwerp; 2015-2016)

My trajectory in Social Psychology soon left me with one certainty: I needed to get into Advertising. ASAP. After a good experience working at one of Europe’s best universities, KULeuven,, studying Consumer Behavior, I wanted my internship to carry similar weight. I ended up interning at one of the best advertising agencies in Belgium, in the Strategy department. It was an awesome learning experience, that left me hungry for more. And that “more”, was copywriting.

Mojobrands (Porto; 2017-2019)

Over the last couple of years I was responsible for much of the strategy and copywriting that comes out of Mojobrands. I’ve been able to embrace dozens of different projects, for clients across the spectrum. From advertising to events. From websites to social media. From press releases to award entries. If it has text, I probably had something to do with it.

Tux&Gill (Lisboa; 2020-2021)

And so, it came to pass! On to the big leagues we go. After some diverse experiences, the time came to take the copywriter role in full. And the best was yet to come…or so I thought.
COVID-19 messed all of this up and this, coupled with some internal shifts, meant that my services were no longer needed.

The Year of the Freelancer (Lisboa/Porto; 2021)

Mid-pandemic advertising market was a mixed bag. If on the one hand it put many agencies under a lot of pressure, on the other it provided the opportunity for much more freelance work, amidst lay-offs and restructurings. Working from home, I was able to split my time between two agencies with very different mindsets: a pharma boutique and one of the largest players in the car market.

Mantra (Cabo Verde; 2022-)

Now this was unexpected. A new agency, recently formed from the ashes of household name in Cabo Verde, with a challenge: “let’s help each other grow?”. Well..yes, let’s do it! The last two years have been a test to all my assumptions about copywriting and creating an outside view into a (literally) foreign market has been an endless source of growth.

Did you know that I’m also in a band?
And yes, the name is a pun, not a typo.
Because of course it is.
